The Sadness is a horror movie that takes place in Taipei, Taiwan, during a pandemic outbreak of a mutated virus known as "Alvin." The virus causes those infected to become violent and depraved, committing heinous acts of murder, torture, rape, and mutilation. The movie follows the story of a young couple, Jim and Kat, who are separated amidst the chaos and try to find each other amidst the violence and destruction. As they navigate through the city, they encounter infected locals and must fight for survival. The government and medical experts are at odds over how to handle the outbreak, with some virologists warning of the virus's potential to mutate and cause serious illness. Meanwhile, Jim is forced to flee his apartment after being attacked by an infected neighbor and encounters more infected people as he tries to find Kat. Kat's train is attacked by two infected men who stab passengers with knives and infect others before she manages to escape with Molly. They eventually arrive at an overrun hospital where they are pursued by an axe-wielding Businessman who has confessed his fascination with Kat. Jim contacts Kat as he escapes into the stairwell after hallucinating that a discarded mannequin head begins to lap up his blood; Elsewhere., Dr. Wong explains that he attempted to find Alvin's cure in its mutated form connecting parts of brain governing sex aggression but was forced euthanize all babies whom he had tested it on; if she becomes Catherine holds key stopping viruses spread else Wong will kill her too just like all other babies; meanwhile Jim has begun showing signs infection himself at this point so it seems likely things won’t work out well for our heroes!
